Training and Professional Development Consultant, DAR

This position is responsible for coordinating training and professional development opportunities for Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) team members. Additionally, this position assists in the creation and facilitation of content, manages training projects, and develops new programs to assist with varying business needs. This role assures that quality professional development opportunities are available to all employees.
The Department of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) assists Vanderbilt University in securing the resources, both human and financial, that are required to achieve its mission and goals. The Department is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals and organizations whose charitable objectives are consistent with those of Vanderbilt University's teaching and research programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Training and Development Coordination:
Maintains and organizes DAR's annual training initiatives including research and recommendations for potential content or sessions
Track all training activities and provide comprehensive reports regarding departmental efforts
Gauge effectiveness of training programs through the use of surveys, feedback, ROI measures, promotion tracking, and turn over trends
Track spending and assure department remains on budget
Monitor training requests. Identify internal resources that can assist in filling skill gaps
Maintains vendor relationships and troubleshooting for any online training resources provided to DAR employees
Monitors completion of career path conversations and assists managers with the creation of individual career development plans
Tracks team building and team professional development budgets and makes purchases on behalf of the department
Develops and enforces policies related to team building and professional memberships. Tracks and purchases DAR employee professional memberships
Work with presenters to create dynamic PowerPoint presentations that encourage engagement and participation.
Facilitation and Program Management:
Facilitates various professional development initiatives, including but not limited to: DAR Academy (core development program for all DAR employees), Fundraising Excellence (new hire training for development officers), New Employee Orientation, Employee Engagement/Satisfaction Focus Groups, DAR Diversity Programming, and more
Navigate the logistics of scheduling complex meetings with multiple presenters and attendees
Develops and enforces policies related to training and professional development
Establish oneself as a knowledgeable staff member by:
Learning the Vanderbilt mission and the ability to communicate DAR's responsibilities to the mission
Attaining an in-depth understanding of the development programs
Cultivate relationships with Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) staff, HR staff, and Vanderbilt University as a whole, by:
Collaborating with DAR staff to build and maintain best practices
Establishing a sound working relationship with DAR staff to enhance collaboration
Contribute to departmental efficiency by:
Understanding and effectively communicating departmental policy and procedures
Clearly communicating and addressing concerns and questions to supervisor and staff
Soliciting guidance from supervisor and co-workers to improve training programs
Conveying thoughts to stakeholders on improving training, leading towards improved departmental performance
Approach each situation with a professional attitude by:
Exercising good judgment in discussing issues and results
Maintaining composure and a calm demeanor during challenging situations
Respecting the need for confidentiality of colleagues
Performing other duties as assigned
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. This position reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Talent Management.
A Bachelor's Degree, or the equivalent, in Education, Human Resources, or similar is necessary
A minimum of 2 years of training development/coordination experience, or the equivalent, is necessary
Training experience in Higher Education preferred
Ability to organize events with large groups of hands-on participants
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Dynamic public speaking and presentation skills towards an audience of all levels of the organization
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Interpersonal skills and judgment suitable for exercising appropriate discretion and demeanor when presenting training materials
Ability to exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential information
Ability to use current computer technology, such as Windows, Excel, and Word. Advanced PowerPoint skills will be key
